Zombie Run

City Park
Sunday, July 28, 2013

Cost:Individual: $50, Team: $45 (per runner), Zombie: $30

We hope you’re a morning person, because the post apocalyptic playground you’re about to brave offers no protection. At the starting line, you’ll come across a flipped tanker, the source of the toxic compound. After the first kilometer, you’ll enter into a military-controlled apocalypse zone. Beware, this is where your dash from zombies will begin. Around kilometer 3, you’ll make it to a vaccination hydration center. The vaccine will fail, and you’ll have to continue to sprint from zombies. The last 2 kilometers are a free-for-all, as you charge towards freedom. Zombies are everywhere. Helicopters circle overhead and military personnel distribute facemasks for safety during your final steps.Runners have the option of wearing a custom, latex free “life-balloon”. Our brain hungry zombies will try to pop your balloon and take your life before your reach the finish line. But if you’re not fast, don’t worry! Our course is designed like a zombie movie set, so if you don’t wear your balloon or survive the race, you’ll still have a spooky run. Dead or alive, all runners get to complete the entire course and attend the Quarantine Party.

Flip Belts Make Activewear Sleek

Flip Belts Make Activewear Sleek

Win a free Flip Belt!

Easy Entry!

1. Like Catch Carri on FaceBook

2. Email carri@catchcarri.com and tell her your favorite workout accessory.

Level Terrain is making active wear sleek. Working out with items like keys, cards, and cell phones can be tricky and uncomfortable. Fashion designer and owner of Level Terrain, Mia Do, set out to find a solution. With her extensive design background, it only makes sense that it would be functional and still look fabulous “You would never think of a fanny pack utility belt would be sleek.” Slip on a flip belt and you will find they most definitely are.

The belts fit like a waistband. Flashy and vibrant hues combine into high tech fabrics that are breathable, quick to dry and are ant-bacterial. The balanced design makes sure the belts stay secure and don’t shift as you are on the go. Access to a secure opening makes it easy to grab items when you need them. And they still look athletic.

Mia credits her entrepreneurial focused family for igniting her business. Her parents escaped Vietnam in 1976 as refugees of war with their five children. “A church group from Boulder sponsored us. They helped us get on our feet to find jobs and a place to live.”  Mia was 5 at the time. Her parents successfully launched several businesses including a catering and lawn mowing business. “It was all hands on deck. I remember mowing a lot of lawns. That is one job that requires a lot of physical endurance,” recalls Mia.

Carri Wilbanks with Mia Do, creator of the Flip Belt

That need for physical endurance helped get the strings sewing on the flip belt. Watch out- Mia has a black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do and Martial arts. She went to the drawing board after becoming frustrated with finding a spot to hold things like her car keys during training sessions. “I have this inventive side to me. I like to think of things that make life easier,” says Mia.

In the process she has simplified work out gear for athletes across the board. Mia’s genius idea has even caught the attention of the hit TV show Shark Tank. Right now the Flip Belt is in the preliminary stages. It’s a little surreal for Mia who knew her artistic talents but never imagined they would take off to this level.

The belt is sold in 5 Runners Roost stores across Denver and on-line orders are firing in. So much that production is ramping up by the thousands. Right now the belts are made at Denver factory “American Made.” In the last month an L.A. factory came on board to sew 8-thousand belts to fill fast filing orders.

Step into Ace Eat Serve and expect to hear lots of cheering as white balls fly across the room. The ping pong hall/restaurant/bar packs quite the crowd any night of the week with people anxious to put a new spin on entertainment. Josh Wolkon, owner of Stuebens and Vesta Dipping Grill, brought the ping pong revolution to Denver.

Both competitive and casual players are welcome to step up to the table at Ace Eat Serve

Both competitive and casual players are welcome to step up to the table at Ace Eat Serve

“There’s a lot of nostalgia for people who grew up playing ping pong,” says Josh. Even for those who didn’t, the ultimate basement sport is catching on quick. People looking to lighten up the lunch hour are bellying up to tables come noon. “It’s a great stress release no matter the time of day. People come in here and play for a half hour and eat for the other half,” says Josh. But some of the liveliest nights start after six, which is when Josh has experienced prime people watching. “Women come in the spikiest heels and play. It blows my mind,” laughs Josh.”And there’s always also the couple on a date that starts out lobbing the ball back and forth. Until the dude gets a competitive look in his eye and slams the ball across the table.”

What’s on the Menu:

On weekends, you can expect a wait at one of the 10 ping pong tables but the nearby restaurant and bar will keep your mind off the time. “We serve Asian comfort food. That type of food is pretty hot right now in places like Portland and San Francisco. It fits a niche,” says Josh. Menu items like the Crispy Whole Snapper, Crispy Tiger Wings, Spicy Pork Ramen and the Kung Pao Half Chicken are all worth trying. Also check out the Asian inspired cocktails and house made juices and sodas.

Ace Eat Serve also whips up delicious dinner to be enjoyed in the dining room or between games

What the Vibe is Like:

Make sure to take notice of the atmosphere between games and bites. Ace Eat Serve creates a vibrant scene by recycling items found in shipping yards to decorate the space. “I don’t think lets just buy a hostess stand but lets find a way to make it creative. You can have a lot of fun with every single detail,” reveals Josh. Inside you will find the design inside the former limousine company uses salvaged airplane parts, shipping containers and even old train flooring on the bar tops.

Josh Wolkon, owner of Ace Eat Serve uses the original character of the former limousine company that now houses his latest restaurant. Wolkon says, “"That's my favorite part of what I do is creating. I get inspired by travel and design."
