The Alamo Drafthouse’s newest Littleton location, in the Aspen Grove Shopping Center, is much more than a movie theater. Sure, film is the cornerstone- you can catch everything from classic oldies, indie films and even the mainstream hits. But it also creates a community for film lovers.

Carri Wilbanks with Founder & CEO of Alamo Drafthouse, Tim League.

Carri Wilbanks with Founder & CEO of Alamo Drafthouse, Tim League.

CEO and Founder, Tim League started the chain in Austin, TX, knowing he had a unique set of plans ready roll. He is quick to admit his key concepts: no ads before shows, no tolerance on texting or talking (you will be kicked by the Yeti with no refund) and creating a place where film lovers can chat it up. “My wife and I wanted to create a place we would love going too,” says League.

Alamo Drafthouses are popping up across the country, but each adapts spunk from the state or city. “We have no desire of building a cookie cutter company. Each Alamo Drafthouse has it’s own character.” Which comes into the play at the cleverly named, Glass Half Full Bar, which places the spotlight on Colorado brewers. With more than 32 Colorado Craft Beers on tap, and even beer mixes, there are plenty of original recipes to try. Go bold with options like the Black Velvet (Great Divide Yeti & Sparking Wine) or add a shade of summer with the Lager & Lime (Upslope Craft Lager & House Made Lime Cordial).  Not feelin’ the hops? Wine, beer and cocktails are also served.

If you didn’t get a chance to order good eats at the bar, a server will come by your table to take your order on everything from burgers and salads to warps and pizzas. Each seat has a convenient table for two complete with a pad and paper to write down orders. Throughout the movie, staff slides by to check on any orders without disrupting the flick. If the urge to shake things up kicks in- check out the Adult Shakes! Which are also Colorado proud with options like the Left Hand Milk Stout Shake and the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter Shake.

Head to Alamo Drafthouse for screenings you won’t find anywhere else. A “Big Lebow-ski” Quote Along (April 5); “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” spaghetti Western dinner (April 7); and “Girlie Night: Dirty Dancing” (April 10).

And if you need to check your phone during the show—don’t! The no phone policy is serious here! When a customer who was kicked out of the theater left an angry voicemail, the Alamo Drafthouse saw the marketing potential. A PSA and 2 million you tube hits later, it’s safe to say it’s now as famous as some of the stars on the Alamo screen.

Catch Me If You Can Plays at Denver's Buell Theater Through March 10

Catch Me If You Can Plays at Denver’s Buell Theater Through March 10

Catch Me If You Can playing through March 10 at the Buell Theatre tells a fast-paced rendition of Stephen Spielberg’s 2002 film of the same name (with Leonardo DiCaprio as Abagnale). Stephen Anthony, a recent Florida State University graduate, plays lead character Frank Abagnale Jr. in the Tony Award-nominated musical. Based on a true story, Abagnale- a con man who passed himself off as a pilot, doctor, professor and lawyer before the age of 21, also forged and cashed 2.5 million dollars of checks. His seemingly glamorous life is on the line after attracting the attention of FBI Agent Agent Carl Hanratty (Merritt David Janes). Anthony may play the “bad guy” but performs so effectively, the audience develops an emotional tie. I found myself hoping he would avoid a lengthy prison sentence at the end.

The show is cleverly retold in the format of a 1960s TV variety show. Along the way expect punch lines of humor, sharp writing and a pace that keeps the story moving beat to beat. A dynamite on-stage orchestra plays numbers like “Butter Outta Cream” “The Man Inside the Clues” and My Favorite Time of Year” with pizzazz. Flawless costume and creative projection style set designs capture the ’60′s perfectly. The show is full of adventure, glamour and romance– giving the production a cohesive style and nonstop flow.
